Get Involved

We would love to have you become part of the GMT experience. There are several ways in which you can become involved:

  • Participate in a trip as a student
    • Students are the life of our organization! We have 100's of trippers join us every year and the numbers are growing. Read the information on this site, and check out our Facebook page. Chances are there are students near you who have been on previous GMT trips and would be glad to share their experiences with you. Let us know if you want any more information or have any questions. If you are ready to go, find a trip on our trip schedule and register!
  • Start a student organization on your campus
    • We value our student organizations greatly and the majority of our tripper come as part of a campus group.  Check out the links to the existing campus organization websites and search around on Facebook to see what others are doing. Please contact us if you have the time and dedication to do this and we will get you started.

One of the patient's that I will never forget were two little girls of the ages 5 and 6, who portrayed symptoms of malnutrition, which I later learned that it was due to the lack of parental/guardian supervision. Apart from their poor health conditions, they also lived in poor living conditions, where both of them had to sleep in the floor and one of them did not own a pair of shoes. After, diagnosing the patients and consulting with each member from my group, we thought that the best GMT can do is to provide both of them with sufficient vitamins, iron tablets, and parasite treatment for at least 2 months. Even then, we thought that giving the little girls these medications was very little in our dispense. This was one of the cases that definitely marked my perspective about the patient's healthcare in third world countries and how the poverty in Panama is incomparable to first world poverty.- Angela, Junior, Hunter College
